“Rock the Ballet” really rocks!

The bet was won for Rasta Thomas, the founder of the Bad Boys of Dance Company and artistic director of “Rock the Ballet”. Yes, his show is absolutely entertaining.

When the well-known American ballet dancer Rasta started “Rock the Ballet” in 2008 with his wife Adrienne Canterna, also a ballet dancer, he was hoping that people who would come to the show, would later leave happy and wanting to dance! He also said in an interview that “Rock the Ballet” is perfect for those who think ballet may be a bit monotonous.

It is a new kind of spectacle, with ballet moves mixed with hip-hop, jazz and other contemporary dance. You forget about the word ballet due to the amazing music selection, which accompanies all the jumps and acrobatics. The costumes change often during the show and everyone falls in love with the flashy outfits of the pretty girl.

You feel the emotions between the bad boys and the pretty girl. You feel the love between the main dancer, James Boyd, and the pretty girl, Lauren Blakeney, and later the pain due to their fights and separation. You see the passion of the dance in the dancers’ eyes. If the first part of the show is more romantic, the second part is even more upbeat.

There are beautiful songs and amazing video clips. Popular bands and singers such as Coldplay, Bee Gees, U2, Lenny Kravitz, the Bee Gees, Maroon 5, but also Michael Jackson with “Bad” entertain you throughout the show. Sometimes there is “fire” on the stage. Other time you go to Time Squares in New York by night or are sent into space via the clip of the 1998 film “Armageddon”, sung by Aerosmith.

For Rasta Thomas, now in his early thirties it was clear, the Bad Boys of Dance would have to be not only excellent dancers, but also great entertainers. “I wanted to show something new, and it had to be fresh, sexy and entertaining.”

On the third night of “Rock the Ballet” at the Zurich Maag Halle, no one in the completely sold out auditorium wanted the Bad Boys and the Pretty Girl to leave the room. Time flew by quickly and the audience wanted more, clapping as much as they could.

When during the finale the Bad Boys removed their tops showing their muscular body, the crowd went wild!

“Rock the Ballet”, a show from the United States, started its world Première in January in Hamburg, Germany. The six talented boys and one girl are now touring with their new choreography. Since the beginning in 2008 it had 500 performances with half a million viewers. Rasta, who was born in the United States, studied at the Kirov Academy in Washington D.C just like Adrienne. He worked in twenty different ballet companies such as “Le Jeune Ballet de France”, “National Ballet of China” and “Kirov Ballet in St Petersburg”. He took part in the film “One Last Dance” with Patrick Swayze. James Boyd from Florida danced a few years ago at the Carnegie Hall in front of Sir Elton John. Lauren Blakeney from Houston Texas, has been dancing since the age of four and was seen in the TV series “So you think you can dance”.
