Davos /Klosters – 1,560 m/5,118 feet (Graubünden)

  • Davos is a large and busy town
  • skiing to the summit is at 2,844 m/9,330 feet
  • offers 6 areas for skiing
  • excellent for nordic skiing and for snowboarders (with 4 fun parks)
  • good for beginners to advanced downhill skiers
  • charming village of Klosters nearby is quieter
  • personalities go to Klosters not to be seen. It is famous for British and Swedish royals visits like Prince Charles. Long before them came Gene Kelly, Audrey Hepburn and Paul Newman to Klosters.

 

Flims – 1,100 m/3,608 feet (Graubünden)

  • one of the best places in Europe known for snowboarders with 3 fun parks
  • good for cross country and advanced downhill skiers
  • friendly family village

Flumserberg – 1,200 m/3,937 feet (Heidiland-Eastern Switzerland)

  • skiing up to 2,222 m/7,290 feet
  • good for intermediate and advanced downhill skiers
  • excellent for snowboarders
  • easily reached from Chur and Zurich

 

Gstaad – 1,100 m/3,608 feet (Berner Oberland)

  • a charming village with traditional chalets offering many 5 star hotels
  • loved by the rich and famous (Film director Roman Polanski, actor Roger Moore and singer Johnny Hallyday own a chalet there)
  • skiing up to 3,000 m/9,842 feet and outstanding panorama at Glacier 3000

Jungfrau Region (Berner Oberland)

  • Grindelwald 1,034 m/3,393 feet & Wengen 1,274 m/4,180 feet
  • Wengen is a traffic free village and has stunning views
  • magical views of the Mönch, Eiger and Jungfrau mountain peaks
  • mostly for intermediate to advanced downhill skiers and for snowborders
  • some cross country skiing is possible on 40 km/24 miles of slopes
  • fantastic views at Schilthorn Piz Gloria 2,971 m/ 9,748 feet. A scene of the James Bond movie On Her Majesty’s Secret Service was filmed there.
  • excursion to the Jungfraujoch top of Europe 3,454 m/11,333 feet to see the Aletsch Glacier. Railway has to be taken at Kleine Scheidegg.

 

Saas Fee – 1,560 m/5,118 feet (Wallis)

  • skiing up to 3,600 m/1,1811 feet
  • lovely car free village and safe for families
  • half of the slopes are easy
  • excellent for après ski parties
  • Glacier of Allalin allows all year round skiing
  • Mountain scenery of Davos mountains, in Graubunden

St Moritz – 1,772 m/5,813 feet (Graubünden)

  • some says it is the sunniest place in Switzerland
  • has 163 days of snow guarantied each year
  • excellent skiing for advanced, snowboarders and cross country skiing
  • village is ok for family but not the best
  • area offers 324 km/200 miles of slopes and 180 km/111 miles for cross country
  • known to be for the rich and famous
  • expensive resort with glamour
  • holds a March ski Marathon

 

Verbier – 1,500 m/4,921 feet (Wallis)

 

  • there are 4 valleys and 410 km/254 miles of slopes for skiing
  • Top is at 3,330 m/10,925 feet on Mont Fort
  • good skiing for intermediate, advanced and off piste
  • not the best for beginners due to the difficult slopes
  • also excellent for snowboarders
  • visited mainly by French speaking Swiss and French skiers
  • known to be great for evening and après-ski parties
  • Mountain Peaks from Davos Parsenn, in Switzerland

 

Zermatt – 1,605 m/5,265 feet (Wallis)

  • charming car free village
  • almost always sure to have snow there due to the Matterhorn Glacier
  • skiers can enjoy 313 km/193 miles of slopes & can ski up to 3,889 m/12,759 feet
  • good for beginners and snowboarders
  • rated excellent for families
