Swiss Spring/Summer fashion collections at the Kunsthaus in Zurich

Twenty-two Swiss fashion designers presented their upcoming Spring/Summer collections on Friday night at the Zurich Kunsthaus auditorium, in front of an enthusiastic crowd. The newer and more experienced designers had come from all over Switzerland for the second show of Mode Suisse this month, just a few days after the Pavilon Sicli in Geneva.

The first year of Mode Suisse’s fashions shows came to an end with the catwalks of Heinrich Brambilla’s models. The Zurich designer presented a collection of superb dark colored lady’s suits, jackets, cigarette pants, mantels, coats and elaborated cuts in the forties’ look.

While the VIPs were enjoying a glass of wine and chatting between the shows, backstage in a crowded room, the designers, assistants, hairdressers and make-up artists all worked hard together at a high speed to have a successful evening. The models one after another had their hair done, drawn back, glossy or straight by Geneva hairdressers. During that time others had either their eyes done with glitter or fake eyelashes or their faces done like model Daniel.

Daniel, who had arrived from Paris the morning of the show, featured clothes by the designers Marc Stone, Studio Laend Phuengkit and the Haute Ecole d’Art & Design among others. He showed me his place and pointed out what he would wear that night, discovering them with me. He explained that when he received a phone call he had no idea what clothes he would wear and for whom. He seemed quite relaxed and professional waiting for his time. What he wore during the show suited him perfectly no matter if it was shorts, long pants, overalls, grey colors or the flashy pink outfit from Head in Geneva.

The 2013 Swiss Spring & Summer fashion collections have something for everyone: elegant cuts (LBD, Ida Gut, Asandri, Heinrich Brambilla & Ginny Litscher) or more relaxed cuts but still sexy (Claudia Zuber), warm colors of orange, red, pink (LBD, En Soie, Asandri) or black (Peter Müller), grey (Marc Stone) and white (Stefanie Briggel, Portenierroth, Mademoiselle L), slim, sharp and complex cuts, the forties’ look (Heinrich Brambilla) and silky outfits (En Soie & Nino Bollag).

Creativity was surely not lacking at the Kunsthaus with the amazing catwalks from Ginny Litscher ballet dancers, wearing the most beautiful silky scarfs with dragon and geisha designs. En Soie’s performance was excellent with models wearing colorful elegant scarfs and holding flags, showing that a scarf can make a dress. Ida Gut designed a dress with ivy in the front. Head had unusual designs like the black half pant & short worn by model Anthony.

There will be plenty of varied fabrics next year such as leather, cotton, linen, jeans, wool and silk. Accessories: like hats, large bags, backpacks, necklaces, bracelets, belts and scarfs will also be very popular.

Designers Eliane Diethelm and Joanna Skoczylas, from the Little Black Dress, came to Zurich with 15 elegant outfits the same as in Geneva. They presented mainly long and short dresses, jackets and featured Baies d’Erelle accessories. The colors varied from purple, green, white to of course, black.

Between the shows people could see the outfits worn by the models exhibited at the beautiful Art-Nouveau Villa Tobler. There, Erelle Bertolini the designer of Baies d’Erelle, was showing her brass, copper and silver necklaces, earrings and rings. The French/Swiss designer with Breton origins is based in Lausanne. She started working with LBD long before the second edition of Mode Suisse. She has been in the business for the last four years and begun with only 15 pieces she said with not even a business name. She added she only started making more and more when she saw that people were interested in her work. Her Spring/Summer collection will remind you of Egyptian, Greek and Inca mythologies.

If you missed it, Mode Suisse will be back next Spring.
