A fairytale in the sky with Joachim Berner’s fireworks
It is after the theme song of the last James Bond film’s “Skyfall” and the skydiving of parachutists that the Saturday firework begun at the Züri Fäscht. The night before millions of visitors enjoyed the magical fireworks display of Antonio Parente. In the darkness forty men holding blue lights, which turned into red before reaching the water, fell down over the lake of Zurich.
It was a powerful moment just as powerful as the voice of Oscar winner, Adele.

The man of the evening, who marvelled the Zurich crowd this year for the 9th time, is Joachim Berner. He founded his company IP Innovative Pyrotechnik Gmbh in 1994 and works with Ulrich Frick. The two are located in Germany near Stuttgart.
While Antonio Parente had chosen soundtracks with instrumental music, Joachim Berner had opted for classical fireworks.The synchronisation between the fireworks and the music was perfect. The eight musical pieces came from operas, ballets, suite movements and films.

It is with the melancholic piece of Edward Grieg “Peer Gynt, Suite No.1 Morning mood” and the sounds of flutes and oboes that the fireworks started. Another sad musical piece was “Comptine d’un autre été” from the famous French film Amélie (2001) and written by Yann Tiersen. There were some more upbeat pieces like “L’Arlésienne, Suite No.2 Farandole” from George Bizet or “Danza Final-Malambo” from the Mexican composer Arturo Marquez. Berner included the chamber music of the German composer, Johann Pachelbel, the famous beautiful Canon in D for violins.
During each song there was an opening and a finale with the biggest explosion during the piece of “Mother Earth” from Johan de Meij. The sky was constantly changing colours with sparks of yellow, red, green, red and orange. There were flowers and rings coming quickly up to your face and marbles jumping at you in all directions. Also there were spider, crossette and palm shell effects and shots leaving trails like cotton bawls.
One incredible moment was the non stop rainfall of fireworks!

But the most amazing thing was the firecopter, which came to shoot fireworks above and in between the computer programmed fireworks. The co-pilot in the helicopter was Félix Baumgartner, an Austrian Red Bull pilot, who became world known when he jumped from space in October 2012 and broke the sound barrier.
Only a few fireworks companies use firecopters and precision, coordination and a great team work is necessary in order to succeed!

The Joachim Berner fireworks were incredible. If you missed them, you will have a chance to observe more of them in Stuttgart this weekend on July 13th and during the well-beloved festival in Constance, the Seenachtfest, on August 10th.
