The Zurich Hallenstadion welcomes “Art on Ice” for the 17th year

The world renowned figure skating gala “Art on Ice” opens its doors at the Hallenstadion.

This year for the seventeenth time the organizers are expecting a large crowd, having sold 70,000 tickets for the Zurich and Lausanne shows. In addition to Thursday’s Premiere on Feb. 2d at 8:00 p.m. there will be five more shows until Sunday night (Feb 5th).

What started in 1996 with a small budget of 350,000 CHF is now at 6,5 million CHF!

If you are not familiar with “Art on Ice” it is a show performed by solo and pair skaters within a live concert. For 2 hours 40 minutes (including a break) well-known world figure skaters, singers, musicians, dancers and comedians come together each February to entertain millions of spectators at home and across the globe.

More than seventy-six stars since 1996 have come to the Hallenstadion such as popular groups and singers like Gotthard, Ronan Keating, the Scorpions and Robin Gibb.

This year it is Mick Hucknall from the British pop group, Simply Red, who will be the main guest star of “Art on Ice”.

Who has not heard or danced in the 1980’s on the music of Simply Red with songs like “Holding back the years” (85) and “If you don’t know me by now” (89)?

The German comedy duo Oropax will be back this year due to their popularity. The new soul singer Dionne Bromfield, who could be the next Amy Winehouse according to some reports, will be there too. But this is not all, the new Swiss sensation with her album “Highway”, Tinkabelle, and the promising young pianist, Emily Bear, will be performing at the Hallenstadion.

If you rather come for the ice skating show, you will be able to watch some popular ones:

  • French ice skater, Florent Amodio, who just won a bronze medal at the European figure skating in England last weekend.
  • Swiss Stéphane Lambiel, silver medalist at the Winter Olympic Games (2006) and World Champion (2005 & 2006)
  • Swiss Sarah Meier, first in the 2011 European Championships

“Art on Ice” is scheduled to continue its tour after Zurich. It will be in Lausanne on February 7th & 8th and later in other places in Switzerland like in Davos and St. Moritz. The ice gala will head to Stockholm (Sweden), Verona (Italy) and this year for the second time to Shanghai (China).
