NONAM celebrates its 50th year with Native American singer Jim Boyd
Do you find the Native American cultures fascinating and would you love to learn more about the Indian tribes? Would you like to watch an Indian dance or enjoy a good concert?
This weekend the North American Native Museum (NONAM) in Zurich will be busy, celebrating its 50th anniversary.
The museum focuses on indigenous cultures of North America since 1963 and for the last decade also on the Inuit culture. It has permanent and special exhibitions. Since May 8th and until next year February 28th you will be able to visit the exhibition called “Learn about Life.”For the anniversary the museum invited numerous Native American celebrities from the United States and Canada. On Saturday and Sunday in the museum, in the tent and pavilion there will be numerous activities for the entire family and enough things to eat and drink.

Song writer, singer and musician Jim Boyd, who has received many musical awards, will give a concert and no doubt will seduce you with his beautiful voice. Dancer and artist Jim Yellowhawk will show you a typical Lakota dance, Jasmin Pickner, will dance with a Hula Hoop and Bryan Akipa will play Indian tunes with his flute. Lastly but not the least Shelly Boyd, the wife of Jim Boyd will recount Indian stories in Salish and English.

The festivities are free and will go on from June 15th through June 16th. They will start on Saturday at 1:30 p.m. and end at 5:00 p.m. On Sunday it will start at 11:00 a.m. and end with a typical Native American closing ceremony with Nobel Prize holder and director of the Canadian Indigenous Women’s Resource Institute CIWRI, Doreen Spence.
