The directors of the Zurich Film Festival, Nadja Schildknecht and Karl Spoerri revealed today at the press conference the program of the 15th film festival. During 11 days starting on September 26th, 171 films will be shown in many cinemas in the city.
There will be more women directors than never before, 55 said Nadja proudly. The festival will continue to distribute awards to strong actresses like the previous years. The most prestigious award will go to Hollywood star Kirsten Stewart. She will receive a Golden Eye for her career achievement. A few days later Cate Blanchett will receive a Golden Icon Award.
Not only the Zurich Film Festival is the only festival in the world with a green carpet but it brings film directors who care about the environment. There will be some long feature films and documentaries for adults and children. The film of Niklaus Hilber “Bruno Manser- Die Stimme des Regenwaldes” will open the festival. It is a powerful film about the activist Bruno Manser who fought against the destruction of the rain forest.
Nadja Schildknecht and Karl Spoerri worked very hard the last 15 years for the festival. The number of visitors grew from 8,000 visitors in 2005 to over 100,000 in 2018.
