After Globus department store renovation in September 2006, it was the turn of Jelmoli to get a new fresh look. The largest Swiss department store, Jelmoli, reopened its doors on the 27th of October after 18 months of renovations. During that time it was only partially closed.
The wait was worth it. The new architecture designed by Blocher Blocher Partners is outstanding, looking very much like a Parisian department store.
Jelmoli was the first department store in Zürich. It started when Johann Jelmoli-Ciolina opened a fashion store in 1833. Sixty-six years later opened Jemoli on the main shopping street in Zurich, the Bahnofstrasse. With 72 workers at the beginning, there were 157 in 1900.
Today Jelmoli sells more than 1000 brands over 22,000 square meters. It holds the largest display of children’s clothing in the city with 700 m2. You will with no doubt find some winter coat or running pants you like at Jelmoli in the 3700 m2!
The owner of Jelmoli for the last year is the Group Swiss Prime Site AG who also are building the Prime Tower in Zürich, which is the tallest building in Switzerland.
The courthouse in Zurich has been under renovation for the last 29 months (May 2009-October 2010). It reopened last week on November 6th with open doors for the public and a party.
The old buiding from Gustav Gull style needed renovation after 110 years. The renovation cost amounted 59 Millionen CHF, 6 Millionen more than originally planned.
Located on the Fraumünstergasse it is built in Neo-Gothic style. Come and admire the Atrium Geiser (Lichthof Geiser), the Giacometti room, the fountain and wall paintings.
