The 18th Gourmesse is about to open its doors at the Zurich Congress hall this week. With more than 150 stands the organizers hope to beat last year’s record of 10,750 visitors.
Every year in October it runs for four days. This year it will be from October 5th 12:00 p.m. to October 8th 8:00 p.m.
The Gourmesse is there thanks to the magazine `Salz & Pfeffer’ and many sponsors such as Eurocave, Edelweiss Air, Kapweine, Bianchi Comestibles, Terre des Hommes and Davidoff. It offers people the chance to taste various products from Switzerland but also from elsewhere. This year the guests are from Southern Italy, Calabria and Sicily. Wine, Champagne, beer and delicatessen tastings are offered throughout the day.
Stands about fish, cheese, ham, olive oil, coffee, bread, tea and chocolate are also well represented. If you would rather go to a cooking show, you can choose from a selection of sixteen top Swiss chefs. Each day a few of them will cook in front of you and will be able to enjoy their dishes for a small price. Alexander Kroll and Kay Schultz from Hotel Widder in Zurich or Antonino Alampi from Il Casale (former restaurant of Antonio Colaianni) in Wetzikon will be there. Come early as it gets full quickly.
In addition, the Gourmesse offers seminars and conferences about various topics related to food and drinks. If you come with your children, a free daycare is available on the spot. For smokers it has a cigar lounge outside. This year for the first time, it has a book corner where you can read and buy books.
I am sure you will find something interesting at this year’s Gourmesse.
