Family travels: packing for a trip with kids (Part II)

Good packing is essential for having a successful and stress-free holiday. What do you need to bring with you?

Warming up bottles:

  • Bring a baby bottle warmer on your trip: very practical as you can warm up your milk bottles (powdered milk or normal milk) in your room at anytime. You don’t have to go look for a microwave in the middle of the night.
  • It can become very handy in rest areas when traveling and not wanting to go to a restaurant.

Heating water in your hotel room:

  • Bring a water cooker and an adapter plug if traveling overseas: not all hotel rooms furnish water cookers or coffee makers.
  • Buy bottled water.

Washing baby products in your hotel room:

  • Bring soap detergent in a small containers, a brush and a couple of towels.

Sterilizing your baby equipment:

  • Water cooker is essential to have to boil for sterilizing your baby bottles.
  • I purchased an Avent Express Microwave Sterilizer when my son was an infant. It comes very handy. You can boil water and use it to wash child pacifiers, bottles, plates and silverware.

 Buying food for your baby:

  • If your child is still eating mainly baby can food, bring the most you can with you especially if your child is a difficult eater.
  • Each country has different products and they may not appeal to your child.
  • If you go to France, Germany and Switzerland you will not have a problem in finding a wide selection of good baby food.

Packing baby clothing:

  • You will not be able to wash everyday, so bring more clothes than you think. You need at least to count 2 changes of clothes for each day.
  • Bring extra pyjamas; it is especially important in the winter or if you have a young child.
  • Don’t bring too many set of shoes but at least two in case your child looses one on the way.

Caring for your baby:

  • Pack all necessities in a zipper bag.

Important things to bring with you to care for your baby

  • Bring face cloth, cotton swab, hair brush, a little shampoo, face liquid and sun cream.
  • Bring suppositories, thermometer, cream for diaper rashes, cream for burns and bruises, nasal solution cleaner, finger clipper, bandages and disinfecting spray.
  • I always bring a pair of scissors, some food clips and a Tupperware or other plastic container. These can come in very handy.

Practical things not to forget for a trip with baby

Packing your child’s favourites:

Children always tend to play with the same things so there is no need to bring the entire house with you.

  • A few balls, Legos, crayons, a doll, 2 or 3 books, 1 C.D. and 1 D.V.D. with a D.V.D. player for the car and hotel room. I carry everything in a medium plastic zipped bag.

  • Don’t forget your child’s fur animal, special friend he or she brings everywhere.

If you pack well, everything should fit in a large luggage.

I wish you all the best in packing for your next trip with your kids.

Good Luck and Happy Travels.
