What’s up in Zurich: Oct. 22d to Nov 15th

Coop Wine Fair/Coop Weinmesse:

Like each year in October the Swiss supermarket, Coop, organises a wine fair at Albisgütli near Sihlcity. It has over 326 wines to choose from. It is opened to everyone and the entrance is free for Coop’s card holders. It will be there until October 27th.

Opening times: Mon.-Fri. 5:00 p.m. to 22:00 p.m. & on Sat. 2:00 p.m. to 22:00 p.m.

Due to the success of last year’s first edition of “Zurich Read”, the Zurich Canton will have a second round from Oct. 25th through Oct. 28th. There will be more than 150 events mainly in Zurich and Winterthur in libraries, museums, trams, theaters and bookstores. On October 27th the English bookstore will have a reading session in English with the American author of “the Twelve”, Justin Cronin. The event will start at 8:00 p.m.

The famous story of Pippi Longstocking from Swedish author, Astrid Lindgren, comes to Zurich with the musical from Erich Vock. During 4 months 1/2 you will have the chance to bring your children see Pippi, her father and her friends Thommy and Annika, who will travel to Taka-Tuka-Land.

Book as early as possible as it is a really popular musical.

Go and visit Mowgli, Balu, Bagheera and Shere Kahn at the Bernhard Theater next to the Opera House. The jungle book musical will be playing from Oct. 27th through Feb. 2, 2013.

Exponiva:

It is the famous wine fair in Zurich, which will happen this year for the 59th time. Eleven boats will stay at Bürkliplatz from Nov. 1st through Nov. 15th. There will be over 4500 wines. In addition there will be great forums outside in the tent about Bordeaux, Zurich and Rioja wines and much more. The entrance is 20 CHF.

Opening times: Mon.-Sat.: 1:00 p.m. to 10:00 p.m. and Sun from 1:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. (last Thur).only until 9:00 p.m.

Just like the longest night of the museums, Zurich has the longest night of hotel bars. Thirteen hotels will participate this year on November 3. Among them are Hotel Ascot, Renaissance Hotel, Marriott Hotel, Sheraton Zurich Neues Schloss Hotel and Hotel Storchen. You have to pay a fee of 46 CHF. The hotels are waiting for you from 9:00 p.m. to 3:00 a.m. with music, drinks, amuse-gueules and speed-flirting.

For four days from Nov. 7th through Nov.10th just like Charles Voegele had done it the previous years, Mercedes Benz will organise fashion shows in the town of Zurich. There will be Swiss and International fashion shows and the Annabelle award night.

International Contemporary Art Fair in Oerlikon: 

Unlike Art International Zurich, this contemporary art fair only welcomes galleries. It will start on Nov. 8th (booth H1) and end on Nov. 11th (booth H2). On Saturday Nov. 10th and Sunday Nov. 11th there will be artists’s talks, free of charge at 3:00 p.m. There is childcare possibilities at the fair.
Opening times: Thursday from 4:00 p.m. to 10 p.m. & Friday, Sat, Sun from 11:00 a.m to 7:00 p.m.

    I am not a big drinker so I never attend the wine fairs, but the art fair sounds pretty cool! I might check it out.

    And then of course there is the ZHFD… I will miss the kids’ fashion show, it was so fun last year!
