The 36th Zurich New Year’s race, known as the Zürcher Silvesterlauf, will take place downtown Zurich on December 16th. If you are planning to participate it is not too late to register online. It is possible to do it only until December 9th.
19,109 people registered to last year’s race, making it the highest number of participants since its debuts.
You can choose from twenty-seven categories such as Families, She & He, I’m Fit (for children in school), Züri-Fit, Premium, Medium, Happy Runners and Run for Fun. Depending on your category you will run a minimum of 1,4 km to a maximum of 8,8 km. The first race of the day will start at 11:30 a.m. and is for families. The last category, Run for Fun, will start at 6:30 p.m.
Registration fees go from CHF 18 to CHF 48.
If you would rather go watch the runners, then why not supporting the Swiss athlete, Philipp Bandi? It is a special year for him as he will end his career at the Silvesterlauf. He hopes to win the Post-Cup once again this year just like in 2007, 2008 and 2011. In order to win it, he needs to gather the most points during six races. The first race took place in Bern in August and the last one is in Zurich at the Silvesterlauf in December. The Post-Cup races vary in length from 3 km to 21.1 km and the total prize winnings for the racers is of CHF 87,000.
