Skiing & Snowboarding for Christmas

Are you looking for a place to ski or to snowboard for the Christmas holidays? 

Don´t worry too much. Even if the weather can be unpredictable making it difficult to know if there will be snow for Christmas, it is always possible to find a place. You just have to choose a village high enough or with a glacier nearby.

Here are a few suggestions where you could go:

EUROPE

 

SWITZERLAND:

  • Wallis 

Crans Montana (1,500 m) all year round skiing on the glacier Plaine-Morte nearby

Saas Fee (1560 m) skiing up to 3600 meters –  Allalin glacier allows all year round skiing

Verbier (1500 m)

Zermatt (1605 m – can ski up to 3,889 m – Matterhorn glacier nearby

  • Graubünden (Switzerland)

Davos/Klosters (1560 meters)

St Moritz (1772 meters) – has 163 days of snow guarantied each year

  • Berner Oberland (Switzerland) 

Jungfrau Region has fantastic views.

Schilthorn Piz Gloria (2,971 m) – Day trip to the Jungfraujoch top of Europe (3,454 m) and view of Aletsch Glacier

Gstaad  (1,100 m) with skiing up to 3,000 m – outstanding panorama at Glacier 3000

 

FRANCE:

  • Savoie (France)

Arc 2000 near Tignes – you can ski up to 3226 meters

La Plagne located in Savoy in the Tarentaise Valley will have guaranted snow

Val Thorens (2300 meters) in the Trois Vallées –  snow guaranteed as it is the highest altitude resort in Europe – ski up to 3200 meters

Tignes in the Espace Killy region-it has all year round skiing due to the Grande Motte glacier

Val d’Isère: guaranteed snow

  • Haute Savoie (France)

Chamonix: is the oldest winter resort in France and has guaranteed snow with glaciers nearby

  •  Isère (France)

Les Deux Alpes: can ski up to 3600 meters – all year round ski resort

 

GERMANY:

  • Baveria

Garmish/Partenkirschen – can ski up to 2962 meters

AUSTRIA:

  • Tirol

Pitztal with Pitztal glacier and skiing up to 3440 meters

Sölden with Rettenbach (2684 meters) and Tiefenbach (2796 meters) – can ski up to 3340 meters

Stubaital with Stubai glacier and skiing up to 3213 meters

Zillertal up to 3250 meters

Hintertux/Finkenberg with Hintertuxer glacier – skiing up to 3250 meters

  • Kärnten

 Mallnitz with the Mölltaler glacier and skiing up to 3122 meters

  • Salzburger Land

Kaprun/Zell am See – can ski up to 3029 meters
