Roger Federer is the best Swiss male athlete of the year

Tennis Champion Roger Federer finished the year like a maestro. On Sunday night he received for the fifth time the prize for the Best Swiss Male Athlete of the Year at the Crédit Suisse Sports Awards Gala.

The ceremony has been going on in Zurich since 1950 and Roger Federer, a native of Basel, has won the award in 2003, 2004, 2005, 2007 & in 2012. This year the tennis champion (ATP 2) won his 17th Grand Slam in Wimbledon, a silver medal at the Olympic Games in London and was again Nbr 1 in the world for a few weeks.

Roger said in this website regarding the award he got: “There is nothing more wonderful than receiving standing ovations in Switzerland. I do hope I can continue to spark emotions.”

After touring in South America with his sponsor Gillette and after his last match in Bogota, Columbia, he stopped in Zurich for the sports gala of the year. He is now in Dubai to relax and prepare for the Australian Open in Melbourne starting on January 14th, 2013.
