Twenty Swiss fashion designers at the Zurich Schiffbau

Mode Suisse was back in Zurich this weekend hosting two private fashion shows at the Schiffbau.

Twenty Swiss designers had the opportunity to show their upcoming autumn & winter collections to fashion lovers, people in the fashion business and to the media. Before, in between and after the shows it was possible to mingle, talk to the designers, drink some Champagne, see the outfits, try them and buy some of them. Designers such as Kazu and Little Black Dress (Joanna Skoczylas and Eliane Diethelm) were quite busy backstage during the break.

While most collections were womenswear, some designers such as Marc Stone, Julian Zigerli and Sandro Marzo presented fashion for men. The three designers were much appreciated by the crowd especially J. Zigerli, who started his label in 2010 and won the “Federal Design Prize Switzerland” last year. He likes making classy but also sporty clothings. His autumn/winter 2013/14 will be colorful and with some brown. Sandro Marzo, relatively new to the fashion business, presented a collection influenced by religious outfits.

The collection of young designer,Stéfanie Biggel, who is based in Zurich, had relaxed and elegant garments. Little Black Dress showed colorful and tight-fitting outfits, shorts dresses with many low back and low necked cuts, but also some black and white dresses. All models walked with a vizier except the model ending the show. She wore a long cape. LBD usually starts its shows with a model wearing a red cape.

HEAD (Haute Ecole Art & Design) in Geneva showed once more outfits with much originality. Six students such as Anais Pierquet and Lucille Mosimann came to Zurich to present their first collection. Anais showed Vivamost the 4kg silicone jacket she made. The students, who received their grades in January, are in their last year and presented this collection to obtain their diploma. The crowd loved their work. One model walked swinging a globe in her hand while another wore a pirate’s eye patch.

Ginny Litscher, who is known for her shawls and and scarves was there. The Swiss designer has worked with Alexander MC Queen and Vivienne Westwood and launched in 2011 a brand of scarves called “Ginny”: They are hand-drawn and made of silk. There will be leather outfits, many sockings in orange, pink and deep blue, but also some black and white by Lela Scherrer. The designer, who won the International Fashion Award “Crespi Trophy” in Milan in 2000, has her atelier in Belgium since 2002.

The Swiss/Japanese designer, Kazu Huggler, who worked with Vivienne Westwood, has been featured in many fashion magazines and newspapers. Last year she celebrated her 10th year anniversary. At Mode Suisse she presented her collection Ahita -“tomorrow”.  The collection was elegant, perfect for business. It had a beautiful pink blouse with bird prints, some orange flowery designs and some with Hindu motifs.

Vivamost particularly loved the collection of Johanna Perret and Tutia Schaad, young designers based in Berlin. Johanna is half French/half German and Tutia is half Swiss/ half German with Asian origins. Tutia, who studied at HEAD in Geneva, met with Johanna in Berlin at the Weissensee School of Art.

They showed their first collection in Berlin at the Berlin Fashion Week in January 2010. In Zurich they came with an elegant, comfortable, sexy collection with lots of drapes, white, black but also brown outfits. It is perfect for the working woman, who will look fabulous with short boots or high heel boots.

Of course En Soie did not miss Mode Suisse for the world. The fashion show was watched carefully from on the first row, Dieter Meier, the husband of the founder Monique Meier. En Soie with Anna Meier (daughter of the couple) and other designers, came to present its collection “Zurich-Los-Angeles”, just one month after En Soie opened a brand new store on the Sunset Boulevard in Los Angeles. This collection was influenced by the 1940 French Avant-Garde movement called Les Lettrism. En Soie is known for its beautiful silk scarves, which the former singer of Yello, Dieter Meier, designed in the 1990’s. Again En Soie’s collection received much applauses. All of the models were eating or blowing out bubble gums, giving them a cool look!

The last but not the least, there was one more designer one should not forget to mention, it is Ida Gut. The famous Swiss designer is known outside of Switzerland and has had her own label since 1996. She presented this weekend in Zurich a chic, comfortable and refined collection. It had beautiful mantels and pant suits. Who would not want to wear something made by Ida Gut!
