Züri Fäscht: a celebration for everyone (Part 2)

A big highlight of the Züri Fäscht will be the crossing of the family Bügler over the Limmat. They will walk on a cable, 55 meters over the river for 230 meters from the Grossmünster to the St Peters’ church! One crossing will be done after midnight!Other well anticipated events are the air shows over the lake.

The Suisse Patrouille will not be part of it this time (maybe in 2016 but it is still undecided), but other nice shows are planned, which will no doubt give you the shivers! Don’t miss the flight of the Breitling Super Constellation on Saturday at 8:15 p.m. The “Connies” are for some the nicest airplanes in the world. Also there will be other old timers like the North American T-6 Texan. For more precision you may enjoy the Czech Flying bulls or the Red Bull Skydive team.

Don’t miss the Grossmünster illuminations by the famous Swiss light artist Gerry Hofstetter. He is the one who illuminated the Brandenburg Gate, the Sphinx and the Great Pyramid at Giza, icebergs in Antarctica, the San Marco Church in Venice and many more world landmarks.

There will be air acrobatics, trampoline, freestyle, boat and car shows but also a Première this year, fantastic water shows with a 60m high geyser on the Utoquai. The water effects at night will be unforgettable.

A wrestling spectacle is planned for Friday & Saturday at 21:45 p.m. at the Uto Quai.

Don’t worry if you miss something you really want to see as most activities will be shown once or twice daily.

For those of you more interested in music, there will be some for any kind of taste. Half of the podiums will have DJs and the rest live groups. The “Touch the Lake” and Caliente festivals will take place during the Züri Fäscht. So it sure will be hot in town!

Something to really look forward to said Roland Stahel are the flashmobs. A group of 6 musicians from the Zürcher Kammerorchester will surprise the people in town on Friday and Saturday with various music pieces such as Vivaldi or Verdi. They will come out of nowhere and leave as quickly as they appeared. It will surely be funny if you get the chance to experience it, Stahel said.

The Royal Jordanian Army Marching Band, in town for the Zurich Tattoo fair from July 9th to 13th , will be there. The group composed of 80 musicians will come with their pipes, drums, rifles and bayonets and won’t let anyone disappointed.

There will be a beach party at the Limmat club with music and grilling.

The fire  and police department  will organize activities for children on Saturday and Sunday at the Sechselaütern square next to the opera house from 10:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Children can wear firemen outfits, have their picture taken with a helmet, draw some pictures and have some children tattoos made. There will be some police cars and dogs and firemen trucks too for the children to see.

The police department also recommends parents to have their kids wear children’s Bandeli and badges. On the badge parents should write the children’s name and phone number with the name of the person who needs to be contacted during the festival. Gratis badges can be picked up at the police station on Bahnofquai 3 in Zurich.

For the first time the Züri Fäscht invited a Swiss canton to join the festival, it is the beautiful and sunny canton of Tessin with the lakes of Lugano and Maggiore. Locarno hosts its yearly festivals, the Moon & Stars music festival in July and the open air film festival in August.

A new feature this year is the Züri Fäscht App, made by some ETH researchers. For all iphone users or App fans out there, it should be a nice one to download. It has interesting features such as a friends, toilets and trains finder and of course the daily program with a map.

So pick up a program in town if you have not ordered one yet and see what inspires you. Why not making plans with some friends to go have a glass of Prosecco at the lake and go watch the fireworks?

Enjoy the festival as it won’t be back until 2016!
