The French Institute of Doha plays a key role in cultural and educational cooperation between France and Qatar. As a service of the French Embassy, it promotes the French language, encourages artistic exchanges, and strengthens ties between the two countries.
Its work is based on three pillars: teaching French, student mobility, and cultural outreach. It supports students wishing to pursue their studies in France in collaboration with Campus France, providing administrative assistance for visas and enrollment in French schools. For funding, students must apply for scholarships from their home country or from France.

Each year, the Institute organizes 10 to 15 events, including film screenings, exhibitions, conferences, literary gatherings, and Olympiads. It actively participates in the Month of Francophonie, notably through “Dis-moi 10 Mots,” which highlights linguistic and cultural diversity. With strong local interest, it adapts its activities to the preferences of Qataris.

Beyond culture, the Institute is involved in social projects. In February 2025, it collaborated with Bridging Nations and the Shafallah Center for an art workshop bringing together 17 professional artists and 17 students with disabilities. This project, reflecting France’s inclusive values, immediately won the admiration of His Excellency Ambassador Jean-Baptiste Faivre. Al Shafallah’s art educator, Dr. Bahaaeldin, emphasized the importance of the ambassador’s presence and that of Fernand Girard, president of the French Academy of Arts, Sciences and Letters: “Their participation alongside the students with disabilities and attendees highlights our society’s growing awareness of the importance of including these students, recognizing their talents, and offering them the opportunity to showcase their artistic creations to the local and international public.”

The French Institute must adapt to local specificities. Raising awareness of French culture in a country with different traditions, organizing events, and securing funding are major challenges, especially given France’s limited resources. Nevertheless, its role as a cultural bridge between France and Qatar continues to grow, affirming its importance in a connected world.
