Zurich Theater Spectacle: Aug. 18th to Sept. 4th

The Landiwiese in Zurich will be again busy for the next 19 days.

Why?

The 32d Zurich Theater Spectacle is about to start. The dates for this year shows are:

Aug. 18th to Sept. 4th

What is the Theater Spectacle all about?

If you are not familiar with it, every year Zurich invites many theater, dance & music producers from around the world. It is known to offer creative and innovative shows.

This year for instance there will be theater shows from Israel, Netherlands and even Mexico. There will be dancing from Brazil, South Africa, Kosovo with Arthur Kuggeleyn and of course from Switzerland.

The Theater Spectacle has performances for children and families. They are mainly from Switzerland but this year there will be a show from Finland “Race Horse Company”.

The revolutions in Tunisia and Egypt inspired numerous artists and producers. Two shows on the topic will be shown:

  • Yahia YaÏch ‒ Amnesia (Tunesia) from Fadhel Jaïbi & Familia from Sat. August 27th to Mon. 29th
  • Laila Soliman and Ruud Gielens (Egypt/Belgium) with Lessons in Revolting from Mon 29th to Wed. 31st. This production is nomminated for the ZKP Patronnage Prize.

If you are interested there will be further talks on the following days:

  • Aug. 28th at location Werft at 8:40 p.m. Fadhel Jaïbi, Jalila Baccar & Familia (in French)
  • Tues Aug. 30th at Club at 10:40 p.m.  Ruud Gielens (in English) It is a premiere in Europe.

The festival hopes to have more people this year. In 2010 only 27,500 people visited the shows compared to 29,000 in 2009. For most part, the cold and rainy weather did not help the visitors to want to visit the Landiwiese.

In 2010 most tickets (2/3) were bought before the beginning of the Theater Spectacle.

Where can you view the shows?

  • North, South, Werft, Club, Landiwiese, Open Air Haus am See,  Rote Fabrick, Seebühne (lake stages)

Two awards will be given this year, a 30,000 CHF prize (ZKP Patronnage Prize) out of 6 nomminees and a 5,000 CHF prize (Aknowledgment Prize)
