Do you wish yourself a bliss Christmas? Do you want to feel the holiday spirit? Do you love Christmas songs?
Then, don’t think any longer and book an evening with Bliss.
For those of you who don’t know Bliss yet, it is a group of six men from Switzerland and Germany, who sing acappella. Some of the members met for the first time twelve years ago explained Tom, one of the singers, last night after the Premiere of their show “Merry Blissmas”. They have been very popular the last four years touring with their albums “Superstern” and “Eurovision”. You may have seen them at the Zelt in Bern. The young men are so professional you would never guess they don’t do this full-time but do other things on the side. Tom for instance, originally from Constance, lives in Zurich and teaches.
The theater in Bellevue, at the Hechtplatz was completely sold out for the Premiere in Zurich. The 260 guests were delighted from the start. No sign of nervousness could be noticed on the faces of the singers, who enjoyed themselves as much as the public.
Imagine a small podium with many colorful gift boxes of different sizes and in front of them six men formerly dressed. Some had grey, brown, mauve or Bordeaux suits and coats others wore bow-ties, ties or had a more relaxed look with opened shirts and a béret.
The singers explained the story of Christmas in their songs and short comedy acts. In some songs they incorporated places and things from Zurich and Switzerland such as the fondue chinoise, the toy store Franz Carl Weber on the Bahnhofstrasse and the Jelmoli Märlitram.
They talked about Mary in Bethlehem, the three kings, Samichlaus and of course the Christmas list. For two hours they sung well-known Christmas tunes in English and German like “All I need for Christmas is you”, “It is the most wonderful time of the year”, “Stille Nacht” and of course the “Last Christmas”: Some moments were extremely funny like the songs “Oh Tannenbaum” (Oh Christmas Tree) in many languages or the 1953 hit “Santa Baby”.
It was a convivial evening with good music, funny stories and delicious Glühwein and Christmas cookies!
And as if this was not enough, Bliss had a wonderful surprise for its guests. Swiss singer from the Bernese Oberland, Nils Burri, sung a couple hits from his new album “Maybe some Day”. The young man in his twenties came on the podium with his guitar and delivered a perfect performance of pop songs. The song “Back to You” delighted the entire crowd in just a second.
No doubt everyone at the Hechtplatz Theater last night would have loved to stay longer in company of Bliss.
If you are interested in going to one of their shows, they are having another twelve shows in Switzerland. Some are already sold-out so don’t wait too long. Click here for more info.
