During a fine weather like in September, the transition from summer to autumn, the best hang out place could be a farm with a lake. Jucker Farm is that ideal place in addition to an extra flavor of thrilling view and farming adventure. It is a perfect getaway for family and friends who fancy a hike and/or a refreshing experience with children.
Jucker Farm is located on the Pfäffikersee, Seegraben by the Jucker family. It is run by brothers, Martin and Beat Jucker. They were inspired by the notorious Halloween-ian spirit and launched the farm with Pumpkin Exhibition in late 90s. Within the next decade, with adoration and originality, the farm quickly rose to top ranks in hosting sustainable fruits, berries and farm experiences. They now have four adventure farms, two restaurants, a production yard and three farm shops. The farm also grows farm animals such as goats, pigs, chickens and rabbits.
Every year Jucker brothers along with their excellent sustainable team conduct Pumpkin Championship. A few days prior to the contest, an exhibition is held at Juckerhof and Bächlihof with huge creative models made of varieties of pumpkins. Enthusiastic crowds, mostly families, attend the exhibition every year from corners of the canton. This year, as well, they lived up to their reputation by designing stunning models of pumpkins. Since this year’s theme is Music, we can see a violin, a ballerina, a cassette player, ear phones among other beauties. Each piece would make you wonder in astonishment about how heaps of pumpkins can be transformed into an art.
Throughout September and October, the farm wishes to tease you with numerous pumpkin experiences such as pumpkin sale, pumpkin oil, potted pumpkins, roasted pumpkin seeds in the farm shops and delicious pumpkin menus and soups in the restaurants. On select days, there is also pumpkin carving workshops by artist Jeroen van de Vlag. The weighing championship is being held in Bächlihof Jona on October 6th, 2019. Last year the winning pumpkin weighed at a whopping 790.5 Kg. All eyes are on this year’s heftiest one – May the best one get slaughtered!
