This year the well-known beer festival will go from Saturday Sept. 17th to Sunday Oct. 3d. It will last two weeks and go over three weekends.
Last year in 2010 it was the 200th anniversary and more people visited the Wiesn than the previous year: 6,4 Millions compared to 5,7 in 2009. The number of hectorliter beers drunk in 2010 was 71,000 compared to 66,436 in 2009.
Beer is sold up to one hour before closing time. So during weektime you can drink until 10:30 p.m. and on weekends until 9:30 p.m. A mass (33.8 oz/1 liter) will cost you about 8,60 euros this year.
In 2010 almost 506,000 chickens were sold!
The opening Parade will be on Saturday September 17th at 10:45 a.m. leaving the Sonnenstrasse to reach the grounds of the Theresenwiese. It is a parade for the landlords and breweries.
If you are visiting the Oktoberfest and would like to find a place in a tent or outside, go there early before noon. The most beautiful tent I think is the Hippodrom tent. Each tent is decorated differently and all have live bands. Children under 6 are not allowed after 8:00 p.m.
There are lots of rides for children and a place where parents can drink while kids can play. Also one day a week on Tuesdays it is cheaper for families. Rides are half price and food too in some places. This year it will be on Sept 20th and Sept 27th.
Happy Munich Oktoberfest!
