Break the tango at the Maag Halle until Nov 6th

If there should be a word that explains beyond excellence then “Break the Tango” should trademark it as theirs. The concert is a full platter of entertainment, talent and history.

Choreographed by the Tango world champions perfection is smeared all over the stage. All the dancers, including the break dancers and the band gave their best into the performance. A special mention has to be given to light and stage designers, Tobi Moosmann and Pete Maxey and Anna Wohlgemuth, for without them the performers wouldn’t have conveyed the story that well. The last thing that you would recognize about the stage that it is one, it was such beautifully lit as per the storyline and songs.

Songs for the performance are chosen brilliantly as there is a splendid mix of both Spanish and English songs. The performance starts out with a roadside jig slowly revealing the band behind it. There was no delay in setting the stage to intense mode – there is Tango and street dance festival all around. German Cornejo and Gislea Galeassi duo proved elegantly why they are world’s best in Tango. The dialogue between the legs while flowing around in each other’s arms is a treat to watch. “Break the Tango” drugged us even more with dancers like Pamela Pucheta and Edgar Luizaga.

Break dance is equally as engaging with street smart style moves that defied law of gravity by Break dance captain, Bboy Hill and his team. You can hardly sit still in your seats with spirited songs and Balanceos.

Halfway through the show, the singer took the center stage to unfold for the audience the emergence of the Latin-American art that later subjected to many evolutions in Europe. The name “Break the Tango” is thought to exemplify what level of grandeur is brought on stage if conventional Tango is blended with street dance. It is unquestionably a magnificence.

Our article would be incomplete if we didn’t not mention the singer of the band, Gisela Lepio. Let’s just say she was incredible. Her renditions just took our breath away. She was justly accompanied by another great singer, Luciano Bassi, who took the crowd into a trance with his voice. On Bandoneon is Clemente Carrascal and on drums is Jerónimo Izarrualde. And, this exceptional musical band is led and supported by Dvidio Velazquez, the musical director and also the pianist for the team.

The show is at the Maag Halle in Zurich until November 6th.
