You noticed recently a dirty spot on all your printed pictures and something inside the mirror of your camera; now is the time to have your camera checked before the spring and summer vacations.
Don’t wait too long to find out what is wrong with your camera. It could take a month if you have it send it in.
Should you do it yourself? You could try doing some picture taking tests to see if you could see where the problem comes from. You could buy a self cleaner kit, but be aware that if not done properly you could do more damage or create more dirty spots.
By doing it yourself, you could scratch permanently your camera.
Now if you just have fingerprints on your lens, take a soft cloth for your glasses and wipe them off.
If you don’t have a backup camera, bring it to a shop that will send it in to the manufacturer for you. It would be a shame to waste all of your next vacation pictures because you did not fix the problem while you could.
If you were thinking of purchasing a new camera anyway and don’t mind spending a bit more, buy one with a cleaner sensor. Each time you turn off the camera, it automatically cleans it up for you. I have a Canon EOS 450 D, with that feature and I am quite happy with it.
Here are two sites I found helpful about pros and cons of self-cleaning kits and how to clean your lenses and camera:
