Although we assume money discussions with children can be put on back burner until they finish their high school, scientifically children pick up the penny knowledge at much younger age as 7. World statistics also state that girls are often ignored the necessary finance education that helps shaping their future priorities. As an executive leader, Dr. Mara Catherine Harvey has realized beforehand the economic inequalities and wanted to do her bit in bringing the bar down. Thus, born the Children’s rhyme stories – “A Smart Way to….” .
For a powerhouse like her, it is only natural that she wants to share her energy and illuminate more minds with her wisdom. And, she chose the conventional medium of learning which is books. Before this series, she also authored “Women and Risk – Rewriting the Rules”, published in 2018, that discusses on economic gender gap and risks a modern woman of 2018, still, has to overcome in order to be financially independent.
Dr. Harvey stumbled upon the idea for children book series while she was at Davos at the World Economic Forum 2018 and in one year’s span she penned down 4 books – “A Smart Way to Start”, “A Smart Way to Save”, “A Smart Way to Spend” and “A Smart Choice to Make”. The series is conceptualized from her astounding discovery that money habits are formed at a very young age. So she decided to spread wealth awareness among children, girls in particular, in their own way – rhymed stories. Each book in the series conveys messages on equality, earning, saving, spending and sustainability gleefully yet it reaches its little audience with intense.
Last Thursday, the 24th of October, the series celebrated release of its 4th and last book in the series and its anniversary at Birdhaus, Zurich. The place was brimming with elation and cordial aura in presence of Dr. Harvey herself and the creative illustrator, Mariajosé Gajate Molina. Visitors were in for a treat as Mariajosé personalized the books for each parent with their kid’s illustration on purchased books.
