After Stephan Eicher, Bryan Adams, Kenny Rogers and many other artists it was the turn of Deep Purple to perfom at Live at Sunset last night. The British group, who was formed in 1968, didn’t lose its enthusiasm with the years nor its passion for the music or the stage.
Ian Gillan (vocals, cymbals, harmonica), Steve Morse (lead guitarist), Roger Glover (bass guitarist), Don Airey (organ, keyboard) and Ian Paice (drummer) started their new world tour “Now What?” in February at the international jazz festival in Dubai. The tour will end on November 12th in Ukraine after more than 50 concerts with many stops in Australia, the UK and Germany.
Germany is a country where the group is very much appreciated. When their newest album was released in April it jumped directly to the first place of the Top 100 albums there and in Austria. One month ago the band released their single “Vincent Price”.
After more than 40 years,19th albums and more than 100 million of albums sold worldwide the hard rock/heavy metal band is still loved and wanted. At Live at Sunset it is in front of wild and joyful audience that they performed. It did not take long for the crowd to stand up, dance, waive and shout, but it is with “Smoke on the Water” (1975) that the fans really went wild!
The concert was a mixed between vocals and long musical solos with each band member showing what he does the best, like the amazing lead guitarist Steve Morse. You felt the great fusion between him and the singer Ian Gillan, sometimes trying to match the sound of Gillan’s voice with his electric guitar.
Deep Purple had songs from his old albums like “Lazy”, “Highway Star”, “Wasted Moments” but also from his newest one like “All the Time in the World”. Watching them live in Zurich, it does not seem like the band is planning to retire anytime soon!
Live at Sunset is a great place to have a special evening, to enjoy a drink or tasty food before the concert, so it is not too late to try it out this year. It will end on July 21st with Gianna Nannini.
