Swiss Paralympian athlete, Manuela Schär went home with a trophy at the Credit Suisse Sports Awards. She won the title of best Paralympian woman athlete of the year. The 35 years old wheelchair racer from Lucerne had an amazing year. She got a gold medal at the marathon of Boston and London. Recently she won all urban world marathons like New York, Boston, Chicago, Tokyo and London. She holds the world record in 800 meters.
She was very excited to win she told us because it is her first time and the prize could have gone to many other great athletes. She thanked her trainer and she said that when the rebuilding of her home is finished she will find her trophy the place it deserves.
For Schär to be among the nominees already meant a lot and be there with them on the red carpet. It is a great way to celebrate the end of the season and in style rather than with sneakers as most of the year. She came to the ceremony in a glamour dress, looking stunning and radiant.
“It has been an amazing season, where I reached all my goals an even more! At the time of the ceremony she didn´t want to think of 2020 but still enjoy this year and what she achieved. She wanted to stay in the moment.
It is not a problem for her to stay calm before a competition. She is used to it and it is like a routine. She also enjoys that feeling of excitement before a race and to let it out at the start-line.
When we asked her if she had an advice to give to young athletes, she replied “it is important to go step by step, to not have goals too high, to set up reachable goals and see the achievements year by year. It is amazing to be a young athlete because you have the chance to improve so much over a long time…just to enjoy it.”
