Moritz Bleibtreu will be at the Zurich Film Festival this afternoon to present his newest film Cortex. With more than 25 years as an actor and over 55 films, Bleibtreu makes his debut as a director with Cortex.
In his psychological thriller Bleibtreu plays the leading role of Hagen, a middle-aged married man suffering from severe insomnias. Hagen has frightening nightmares that his wife Karoline is having an affair with Niko, a criminal. Is Caroline having an affair or is it just a dream?
The entire film constantly goes back between dream and reality and you get lost at searching for truth. When Hagen and Niko finally meet you wonder if Hagen is still dreaming.
The constant mystery will keep you alert and the 80 minutes feel like a 20 minute road ride. Cortex also has great sound (Joern Martens) and music (Erwin Kiennast).
Moritz Bleibtreu has made a name for himself in the cinema and played among others in the films “Das Experiment” by Oliver Hirschbiegel, “Munich” by Stephen Spielberg, “Schutzengel” by Til Schweiger and “Solino” and “Soul Kitchen” by Fatih Akin.
