Only 20 days to the Zurich Film Festival

The city of Zurich is getting ready for its international film festival starting on September 26th.

A few films have been announced like the Swiss films, some Gala Premières and the children’s films.

Here is the list:

  • 3 Swiss films, out of competition: Die Schwarzen Brüder by Xavier Koller, Am Hang by Markus Imboden and a documentary Gergiev- a certain Madness by Alberto Venzago.

 

  • the Gala Premières: Gala Gravity by director Alfono Cuarón, the drama Devil’s Knot by Atom Egoyan, Railway Man by Jonathan Teplitzky (based on the novel from Eric Lomax), Joe by director David Gordon, the biography of Diana by Oliver Hirschbiegel, All is lost a sea adventure by J.C. Chandor with Robert Redford and the romantic comedy Le Weekend by Roger Michell.

 

  • 5 children films: the Schwarzen Brüder by Xavier Koller, the Indonesian film Cita-Citaku Setinggi Tanah by Eugene Panji, Nono Het Zigzag Kind (Holland/Belgium) by director Vincent Bal, Believe (GB) by David Scheinmann and the Danish animation film Otto ER ET Naesehorn by Kenneth Kainz

The Zurich Film Festival’s opening film will be the racing drama Rush by American director Ron Howard. It retells the life of Formula 1 race driver Niki Lauda and the time when he was seriously burnt in the 1970’s. Daniel Brühl plays Niki Lauda.

The guest country this year is Brazil and the jury has chosen 9 films.

On September 27th at the Sihlcity Arena the ceremony for the Golden Eye for “Best International Film Music will take place. Out of all the submissions 5 will compete for the 10,000 CHF prize. The composers are Laurent Courbier (France), Aaron Kenny (Australia), Felipe Senna (Brazil), Nathan Stornetta (Switzerland) and Jan Torkewitz (Germany).

Managing Director Nadja Schildknecht and Creative Director Karl Spoerri will reward the Austrian director Michael Haneke with a Tribute Award and the Australian actor Hugh Jackman with a Golden Icon Award.

Haneke’s film Amour was rewarded with an Oscar for the Best Foreign Film.

Jackman is also here to present his thriller Prisoners directed by Denis Villeneuve with Jake Gyllenhaal and Viola Davis. “There is nothing he can’t do and he proves this time and time again with every project he’s involved in. We’re honoured to recognize his brilliant career at the Zurich Film Festival,” said Nadja Schildknecht and Karl Spoerri.

This year it is the Swiss/German director Marc Foster who will preside the international jury. His latest film is the action movie World War Z starring Brad Pitt.

The program of the film festival will come out on September 12th and you will be able to buy the first tickets on September 16th.
