We met today with Dutch artist Pamela Maria at Art International in Zurich. After many solo and group exhibitions in various European cities and in New York this year she is now here at Puls 5.
She presents at the fair (Stand 53) twelve works made between 2018-19 in sizes 30x30cm and 150x100cm. In addition she brought a series of 10/12 little treasures, works on canvas, 15,5 x15,5 cm, each fitting in a box within a book.
What motivates Pamela to create such beautiful artworks?
She says being inspired by nature. Her main themes are the ‘beauty of the everyday’ and “Nothing is what it seems to be”. Some of her series are inspired by the movement of the water, the air and the moving colors.
Her goal is to show people the beautiful life in our world that beauty can absolutely be everywhere in the city or in the countryside. She love picturing the changing of seasons and the explosion of colors.
She works in reliefs which are made with yarn paper, board and photos. It does not look easy to work with yarns and it needs time and patience but she stresses the importance to take time when you create something and in life in general. It is like making music. She is someone who likes to discover and develop work at her pace working usually on 4 to 5 artworks at a time.
But why are layers so important to Pamela?
She explains that things are more interesting with three dimensions. Everything around us becomes more lively. The world is suddenly different when you start playing with geometry and other dimensions.
The price range at the fair of her paintings goes from 450 CHF for the 30x30cm to 6300 CHF for the 150x100cm. The special edition is 150 CHF.
