Facebook was founded on February 4, 2004 by American student Mark Zuckerberg and his roommates while they were studying at Harvard University. The site was originally called Thefacebook and only Harvard students could use it. Then the platform got opened to students from other universities. Since September 2006 Facebook has become available to all Internet users over the age of 13.

– Bloggers and aspiring writers.
– Those who want to find a convenient platform for correspondence and communication.

– People who are focused mainly on visual content.
– Children and elderly people (Facebook’s interface is a bit tricky, and sometimes it may look puzzling for an inexperienced user).

Statistics
Interesting facts
Facebook in Switzerland
According to quarterly data, at the end of June 2020 the number of Facebook users in Switzerland reached 3.55 million. These are much higher figures than in the previous year. However, the social network has lost part of its younger audience. In the 55 to 69 age group, about 57% of Swiss use Facebook.
Conclusions
Some people cannot imagine their life without Facebook, whilst others accuse it of illegal distribution of personal data, unfair censorship and online addictions. But, no matter what, it has become an important part of mass culture. Each person decides how much time to spend online, how to behave and what to post. When used smartly, Facebook can make life easier, connect you with right people and help to promote your business.
