Vivamost Favorites at the Zurich Salon du Chocolat (Part 1)

Vivamost visited the Salon du Chocolat in Zurich. Here are our favorites:

 

Unforgettable packaging

While strolling through the chocolate fair we noticed how much care was given to packaging the chocolates. No matter if the exhibitors came from France, Switzerland, Lichtenstein, Austria or elsewhere they showed that not only the chocolate quality is important but also the packaging. If there were a contest, we would give the first prize to the Austrian company, Xocolat Manufaktur with its colorful, original and creative boxes.

We also loved Aeschbach chocolatier’s long boxes with red wax sealing the boxes or the simple but attractive boxes of Original Beans. We liked Suteria chocolate bars new format and the cute pink box holding Beschle ginger rabbit.

Nicest Easter bunnies, chickens and ducks

A couple days before Easter it was the chance for the maitres chocolatier to show what they had for the Easter season. Many had bunnies on display in various sizes, but there were also some ducks and a few chicks. The biggest bunny was made by Du Rhone Chocolatier, a tall one of almost 1900 grams! There was also Emilie, a lovely 450 grams female duck, with a fashionable look, all sprayed. Suteria had made with Italian moulds a limited edition of Emilie just for the fair (120 pieces).

The Swiss chocolatier Beschle from Basel came with two luxurious rabbits in two different packages, in a blue packet a rabbit with an ancient look and a white chocolate rabbit with ginger in a pink package.

We particularly had a weakness for the bunnies Mayali of Merz, all dressed in white and blue.

We loved many of the designs but if we could only name four it would be Say Chocolate, Thomas Müller, Villars and Patisserie Sadahau Aoki (Paris). With Say Chocolate as you can see on the picture, you make a box of chocolates putting letters together to make a sentence. Depending if you get a consonant or a vowel, the base of the chocolate is different. You can also pick chocolates with interesting face designs. They do not only look good, but they even taste good. Villars had some Swiss milk chocolate bars with roasted almonds with a nice edelweiss flower on each square.

 

The maitres chocolatier with the most creativity 

What Sara Hochuli and Pascal Beschle invented together is amazing. We give the best note to Matcha. Putting tea and chocolate together was a great combination. We also cared for the chocolate called bonbon Maquillage (Make up candies) from the Patisserie in Paris Sadaharu Aoki. They are made with either Wahhabi, orange, raspberry, sesame and other flavors. The company Choco Me also had a great invention making white, dark and milk chocolate bars and adding dried fruits to it or over ingredients. They have about 140 different chocolate bars. The bars are in plastic covers so you can share pieces with other people and close it back. The pieces break with no effort. Some of the chocolates go well with liquors, wines or cocktails.
