First day of the Zurich Film Festival
That’s it in a few hours starts the International Film Festival in Zurich with the opening film “Contagion”.
It is the first evening for the green carpet. Tonight in addition to the jury and its President, Laurence Fishburne, many political, finance, sport, film, and model personalities are also expected in Bellevue at Corso 1.
The first screening today for the first movie in competition is “Take Shelter” (USA).
The New World series this year is about Turkey and its films.

Other Gala Premieres and Green Carpet evenings:
- Saturday 24th: Gala Premiere of “The ides of March” from George Clooney
- Sunday 25th: Gala Premiere of “Margin Call” with actor Jeremy Irons and director J. C. Chandor on the green carpet.
- Tuesday Sept 27th: Roman Polanski evening, prize for his life achievement followed by a surprise film.
- Wednesday 28th: Sean Penn on the green carpet for receiving a Golden Icon Award
- Saturday Oct. 1st: Closing ceremony- Paul Haggis’ night on the green carpet with a prize ceremony. He will receive a Golden Eye Award for his life work as film maker and screen writer. Also Mexican director, producer and writer, Alejandro Gonzalez Inarritu, will receive a Golden Eye award for his career.
- Sunday Oct 2d: Gala Premiere of the film “The help”
Tomorrow, Friday Sept 23d, don’t miss Westwind, a German film in competition out of eight German films.
