At the Oscars on Sunday night the drama, “12 Years a Slave“, won the award for Best Motion Picture. The American/British film from director Steve McQueen was released in the United States in November 2013 and since has already made $140.160.000 at the box office.
The story is based on the 1853 memoir of Solomon Northup who was kidnapped and sold into slavery. From 1841 Solomon lived and worked in plantations in the South of America.
The film was rewarded with two more Oscars: one for the best adapted screenplay writer (John Ridley) and one for the best supporting actress (Lupita Nyong’o).
Steeve McQueen is the first black director to win an Oscar for the Best Motion Picture.
Some of the actors in the film are Brad Pitt (also one of the producers), Chiwetel Ejiofor, Michael Fassbender, Benedict Cumberbatch, Lupita Nyong’o, Paul Dano and Paul Giamatti.
