Jeremy Gasser – Following the Conelli Legacy

One week ago opened “Das Original”, the new program of the 37th Conelli circus. We sat down yesterday at the Conelli Bar on the Bauschänzli island in Zurich with Jeremy Gasser.

Jeremy (23) is the son of Roby and Cindy Gasser, the owners of the popular winter circus. Despite his young age Jeremy is every where at the circus, performing and managing the crew. When he had a few minutes to spare during the show, he had already changed costumes 4 times out of 6.

Jeremy is now working full time for the family enterprise since he finished his apprenticeship as an electrician. After high-school he went to learn a profession. He chose a field which he finds interesting and can always be needed at Conny-Land, which family Gasser owns and operates.

Jeremy is multi talented and a self learner. He confessed he never took any classes in playing the electric guitar nor for singing. He remains very humble and told Vivamost he has “small talents” and that it is his mum who is a pro in dancing, not him. She showed him moves like tap dancing when he was a child. Cindy Gasser used to be a professional dancer in Las Vegas when she met Roby her husband to be. Nowdays she only dances to show the Conelli dancers the choreography. Jeremy proudly spoke about his mother every opportunity he had, saying she still has a lot of power and is very precise.

“Without my mum the business could not run,” said Jeremy. She takes care of all of the administration, the kiosk and the bar. When Jeremy is not praising about his mum it is about his father. Roby shows him how to run the business, paying the bills, finding artists and so on.

It is important to start learning early explained Jeremy, who hopes to continue the legacy of his ancestors when the time comes. He and his brother Tyron (28) are very proud of what his grandfather, Conny Gasser and his grandmother, Gerda, left them. Circus Conelli was founded in 1982. Tyron is coming back slowly into the family business after having organized events on his own. Jeremy described his older brother as someone very intelligent who works a great deal behind the scenes.

Another activity Jeremy does well is choosing the songs for the acts at Conelli. The artists can bring their music and Jeremy can agree or select others. One part of the show is his and the rest the artists. He also brings new ideas for the show just like his mum and dad.

Jeremy´s only free time during the month of December is between the shows and after the shows for dinner. It is a hectic time but he loves it.

During the month of January, familly Gasser will be checking out festivals before a well deserved long holiday. Then all will get ready for the new season at the amusement park, Conny-Land in Lipperswil. The park, which was built by Conny Gasser, is now the number one amusement park in Switzerland and in the Top 10 in Europe. There is a similarity between Conelli and Conny-Land said Jeremy is that in both places they love to entertain the people and are happy when the guests are,  “that´s what we live for.”
