A Benefit Gala for the Zurich Lighthouse
Every year the foundation “Stunden des Herzens” (“hour of heart”), founded over 15 years ago, hosts a benefit gala to help an organization in need. This time It is the turn of the Zurich Lighthouse to receive a large sum of money.

If you are not familiar with the Zurich Lighthouse it is a palliative hospice and the only hospice in the canton of Zurich. It was founded in 1988 to help HIV/AIDS patients. Over the years it has become a place for people to go when they have incurable diseases and need end-life care. The professional team supports not only the patients but also the families. The non-profit health organization can only survive with the help of volunteers and donations.

Together with the foundation “Stunden des Herzens” the Zurich Lighthouse will celebrate its 25th anniversary. The gala will be held in the beautiful Zurich Opera House on September 8th. The opera is since 2012 under the artistic direction of conductor Andreas Homoki, who took over after Alexander Pereira.

Two concerts will be given starting at 6:30 p.m. followed by a festive dinner from 9:15 p.m. to 11:30 p.m. The artists are the well-known German Punk singer and actress Nina Hagen and the Swiss rock band, Gotthard.
Nina Hagen, at the guitar, will perform songs from Kurt Weill. Gotthard, with their new frontman Nic Maeder, will have an acoustic concert and will be sometimes accompanied with a string quartet. It is a new era for Gotthard since Nic joined the group in 2011, replacing Steve Lee, who died tragically in a motorcycle accident in October 2010.The band released their 10th album “Firebirth” in June 2012 and has been touring around the world ever since.

The dinner following the gala/concerts will be prepared by German chef Hans-Peter Hussong. His restaurant “Wirtschaft zum Wiesengrund” in Uetikon am See in the canton of Zurich has been rewarded with 18 points Gault Millau.
