August 16th, 2010 – Photo of the week

 

For the last 15 years at least, I had been in the look out for edelweiss. The day has come. I don’t need to be looking for this precious alpine flower any longer. I was on a trail above Zermatt going from the Rothorn Paradise to the Stellisee when I passed a few. It was my lucky day. There were on the left side of the trails and most of them are protected by stones so hikers don’t step on them.

Edelweiss are hard to find, growing only above 5577 feet (1700 meters) in the Alps.
