Christmas in El Gouna: sun, turquoise lagoons and fun guaranteed

Egypt is an excellent destination with good deals and direct flights from many cities in Europe. It only takes 4 hours from Zurich. The western part of the Red Sea is an alternative to the Sinai Peninsula and offers many great locations for unforgettable holidays. One of them is El Gouna.

This popular resort, called the lagoon, started being built in 1996 by the Egyptian and chairman of Orascom Development Holding, Samih Sawiris. Orascom operates 33 hotels around the world and one destination is the resort of Andermatt in the Swiss Alps.
El Gouna has 17 hotels from exclusive 5 stars to 3 stars and numerous rental apartments. In addition there are private villas like the White villas and the Nubian villas.

The Red Sea resort is the perfect place to go kite surfing, golfing at its 18-hole championship golf courses or discovering its coral reefs and turquoise lagoons.

The town of El Gouna has a lovely downtown with many shops around its marinas. You will find anything from souvenirs, perfumes, bags and jewellery. Popular excursions are a desert safari in the nearby eastern desert or a glass boat tour. Not far away is the town of Luxor with its temples and archeological sites.

- the Sheraton Miramar Resort with great food, a beautiful sandy beach and a unique bar in the middle of the lagoon
- the Steigenbeger resort, which is located on the golf course, has spacious rooms and a free shuttle bus to the beach.
- the Mövenpick Resort & Spa has 4 swimming pools, a kid’s club, tennis courts and buffet and fine dining.
- Fanadir is a 4 stars hotel, for adults only. The rooms are modern with nice decoration and some have great views of the lagoon.
