Will Roger Federer win the Davidoff Swiss Indoors tennis tournament?

Last year’s winner, Swiss tennis champion, Roger Federer (ATP 4) has already won the tournament four times and three times consecutively (2006, 2007 & 2008). Since the beginning of the Davidoff Swiss Indoors in 1970 no other player had done it before.

Or could it be the Serbian Novak Djokovic (1), who won it in 2009? After Djokovic‘s amazing year, one could only wonder what will happen this week.  He became number one in the world in September after the US Open.

The tournament happens each year at the beginning of November in Basel at the Jakobshalle.

Again in 2011 many brilliant tennis players will be competing against each other to win the trophy and EUR 1.835 million prize money: Andy Murray (3), Thomas Berdych (7), Mardy Fish (8) Andy Rodick (14), Stanislas Wawrinka (19) and Tommy Haas (20).

The matches open tonight at 6:30 p.m.after the opening ceremony at 5:30 p.m. Roger Federer will play against Italian Potito Starace (53), player he already beat five times.

According to a media release on the tournament website, there is this year at the St. Jakobshalle a new Central court floor, blue instead of red. Players will use balls from Head and the prize money is also 5% more than last year.

The draw for Swiss Indoors took place in Basel on October 28th. If Roger Federer wants to win the tournament he will have to possibly play and win against Andy Rodick in Quarter- Finals, against Andy Murray in Semi-Finals and Novak Djokovic in Finals.

But nothing is impossible for Roger Federer and let’s remember Roger is at home in Basel!

Tournament will end on Sunday November 6th. Tickets are still available here for matches through Thursday. Check here for the daily program.

Note: Andy Murray will not be playing at the Davidoff  Swiss Indoors due to an injury. He is replaced by Swiss player Marco Chiudinelli (203).
