Good health is our most important possession. When we are healthy, physically and mentally, we are able to enjoy our lives to the fullest. When we have it, it is taken for granted, when we lose it, we are at a loss and are prepared to do anything to regain it.
Many different factors influence our health. Genetics, stress, lifestyle, the external environment and in fact ageing itself (an accumulation of oxidative damages to tissues and organs caused by free radicals) can affect our health negatively and increase our chance of getting chronic illnesses.
Unfortunately, we cannot influence our genes, but other factors, like nutrition, we can!
The WHO has officially recognized nutrition as a critical contributor to our overall health and has been able to show how it affects peoples’ immune systems, health states (risk of getting chronic diseases), mental health and finally, how it impacts longevity.
It would seem that healthy eating is relatively easy, especially in the Western World, with abundant availability of fresh vegetables, fruits, legumes, whole grains, lean proteins and healthy fats.
So why are many people still diagnosed with vitamin or mineral deficiencies?
The food we eat provides us with macro and micronutrients.
Macronutrients are proteins, fats and carbohydrates. We need these in large quantities to function optimally and protect our organs. They also repair cell damages and fuel our brain and muscles; they give us energy.
Micronutrients, are vitamins and minerals. We only need them in small quantities, but they are vital to our health. They boost our immune system, help growth and brain development, blood clotting, cell repair and play an important role in bone and muscle health amongst other things.
With the exception of vitamin D, all micronutrients are essential. Yet, that they need to be derived from food and cannot be produced by our bodies. Regularly consuming an adequate amount of the different vitamins and minerals (micronutrients) is therefore considered to be key to optimal health.
One would expect that most healthy adults eating a balanced diet should be able to get an adequate amount of micronutrients from their nutrition. Unfortunately, this is only partly true and research has shown common micronutrient deficiencies in different population groups, also in Europe.
For example, large prevalence studies have shown that around 40% of Europeans have a concerning Vitamin D deficiency. Less prevalent, but also seen in certain segments of the population are zinc, iodine, iron and vitamin B12 deficiencies.
At the beginning and at an individual level, such deficiencies tend not to show any signs. Over time though, if they remain chronic, micronutrient deficiencies will usually lead to symptoms and can ultimately lead to disease.
Treating micronutrient deficiencies by supplementation, particularly in the western world, is not complicated. The dilemma is, that many people are unaware of their vitamin and mineral status and of existing deficiencies. They only become aware, once they have symptoms or are diagnosed with a medical condition.
A simple blood test, which can be done by most physicians, can tell an individual person their micronutrient status and which (if any) supplementations they may need.
Hauora Health is a company based in Switzerland, focusing on nutritional supplements for well-being and longevity.
Two different Health Boosts were developed by a team at Hauora Health: The Body Boost and the Brain Boost – combining superfood powders, vitamins, minerals and the antioxidant Enzogenol® to make micronutrient supplementation easy. What is different about the Health Boosts, compared to other products on the market, is that they combine all these potent natural ingredients in an easy-to-use powder formulation!
The Health Boosts, in addition to providing the body with essential antioxidants, vitamins and minerals, give immediate energy and support healthy ageing of the body and brain.
Two different Boosts were formulated: a Body Boost and a Brain Boost.
BODY BOOST:
For the creation of the Body Boost, the focus was on overall body health and immunity and besides the essential vitamins for immune health, vitamin B, C, D, magnesium, iron, zinc, copper and selenium, the antioxidant Enzogenol® was added and combined with green and red superfoods, specifically wheatgrass, barley grass, broccoli sprouts, NZ blackcurrant, beetroot and kiwifruit. All these ingredients have individually shown to be powerful immunity boosters.
BRAIN BOOST:
The Brain Boost was formulated specifically for brain health. The high dose of NZ blackcurrant and beetroot, combined with Enzogenol®, plant-based Omega 3 (DHA), iron and the important B3, 6 and 12 vitamins all have shown to support concentration, energy, a positive mood, but also contribute to long term brain health by improving blood flow and fighting inflammation that is believed to cause dementia and other brain-related diseases.
Both Health Boosts are made in clean and green New Zealand and its ingredients are organic, natural and were selected for their clinically proven health benefits.
Both the Body and the Brain Boost are available in pouches containing 30 servings. Just one scoop a day, either mixed with water or juice as a shaker-shot, or mixed with a smoothie, provides the body with essential micronutrients and antioxidants.
