How to make YOU feel special everyday! – Earrings special by Liz Le Feuvre at Swiss Blue Jewellery

We all need a little something to put a smile on our faces everyday, particularly in recent times. For some it might be having their special coffee, for others it might be using your favourite handbag, but for me, it is most definitely putting on a little bit of sparkle that will put a smile on my face.

Earrings can lift your face, and your spirits very quickly, but sometimes the volume of choice can be overwhelming and it’s easy to wear the same pair each day.  So let’s have a little look at the main things that should be considered when choosing earrings.

Face Shape

Firstly, our face shape will be the most influential thing in choosing a style or length of earring that suits us best and will help enhance our features rather than distracting from them. To do this, pull your hair back and have a good look to decide which shape your face is.

Generally, diamond and triangle shaped faces can wear longer earrings to accentuate their face shape.

Longer or oval faces suit studs or circular earrings that will emphasize your face’s width, such as short dangles or hoops.

Square and rectangle faces should go for round or circular shaped earrings which soften the shape of your face.

Oval and round faces can wear most types of earrings, although rounder faces should avoid large circular earrings or hoops.

Highlight your best features

As well as balancing your face, earrings can also be used to enhance your features. Small studs on the ears will highlight the eyes, whereas drop or chandelier earrings will accentuate your jawline.  Any sparkle worn near the face will also help illuminate it too!

Many are not sure what length earring to wear.  One trick is to see if you have a short neck, and so less space between your ears and shoulders, which can make large chandelier earrings look clumsy.  If you drop your chin to your chest and you can easily rest your chin on your chest then you have a short neck and by creating more space between the ears and shoulders you will give the illusion of having a longer neck.  This can be created by choosing earrings of length better suited to you.  To do this, take your index finger from the base of your ear and trace your finger down the jawbone until you feel where it starts to angle in towards your chin.  This point is the perfect earring length for you.

Hair length and earrings

If you have long hair worn down, then studs and small earrings will easily get concealed by the hair.  This is the time for larger earrings with a pop of colour so they are visible.

If you have short hair, or are wearing it up, then you can really go with whatever you feel like, whether it be larger statement earrings, or more discreet hoops.

If you like wearing half-up do’s, then larger hoops, or earrings which look good with a backdrop of hair behind them to show their detail can be fun!

Styling with other jewellery

Use the rule of opposites attract. If you are wearing statement earrings, then balance them out by wearing a more discreet necklace and vice versa, for example, wearing small stud earrings and a large statement necklace.

The same goes for colours and sparkles. If you have a large colourful necklace, then pair it with simple colourless or sparkling earrings (think diamonds, crystals or pearls).

Regarding different shapes in your jewellery, triangles and squares work well together, and can be carefully contrasted with circles, just being careful that the size balance works out between different pieces.

At the moment combining golds and silver together is very much in vogue so don’t be scared to mix them up!

Lastly, I strongly believe that jewellery should be fun, it can be very sentimental, but most of all, it should make YOU feel special, so go with what feels right for you and will put a smile on your face!
