How to travel without leaving your home

Does anyone else agree that the need for a holiday has never been more relevant? Itchy feet are very prominent and I personally cannot wait to plan our next getaway. Thankfully, while we wait patiently for the world to open up again, there are so many incredible and creative ways to travel to our favourite destinations from the comfort of our own homes.

Virtual Technology

To help keep our travel dreams alive, a lot of destinations are setting up virtual ways to visit their incredible sights and attractions. From an interactive ride on the tallest roller coaster in Orlando to watching live artist home sessions in Nashville, it’s never been easier to check out your favourite hot spots. You can even live stream from Canada where the Northern lights have been seen frequently recently and take part in a bucket-list experience from your armchair. One of my favourites so far is a stunning and interactive site where you can explore 5 amazing national parks in US. There is some dropping photography which, with only a small amount of imagination can make you feel as though you are really there! Keep an eye out on our site for more virtual travel experiences as there are new ones appearing every day!

Cook Your Favourite Cuisine

Remember those amazing tacos you had? Or that awesome paella from that trip back in 2015? Why not try to recreate your favourite foods from destinations across the world. Being transported around the world as you enjoy the cuisine from places you love the most. Why not FaceTime your family and friends and all make something from the same country? You could get the kids involved and get them to research something to share about the country you are “visiting”?

Google Earth

Ok, it is not quite the same, but why not visit your favourite destinations on Google Earth? Relive that moment from that epic family holiday you took, or the awesome backpacking adventure you went on We’ve all searched our own house on Google Earth (why is it we do that?), so instead search for the hidden beach you found in Greece. Or check out some places on your bucket list?

Get Your Read On

A good book is a cure for many things, so grab a travel-inspired piece and settle down for a few minutes (or hours or the whole day!) in a cosy corner. From the Good Girls Guide to Getting Lost to The Beach or even Land of Lost Borders:A Journey On The Silk Road, a book can be just the thing to help your escapism need and bring some inspiration for your next travel destination. You could even set up a virtual book club with family or friends and discuss it over a video call, not only is it educational but it helps you stay connected to.

Travel Shows

With a bit more time on our hands, there has never been a better time to catch up on a few travel-inspired documentaries . Check out Race Across The World and witness couples trying to get to certain check points without flying, credit cards or smartphones and with limited money, which makes for strangely compelling viewing and often gives a different viewpoint of the countries they are trying to travel through. Or why not sit back and enjoy one of the many incredible David Attenborough series? Or experience an epic cycling adventure with Pedal the World which sees Felix Starck on an 18,000km bicycle journey across 22 countries.

Or……

Just grab your tent and go camping in the garden! It’s a challenging time right now , but with a bit of creativity and imagination, we can still explore this amazing planet until it is ready for us to visit again. Of course if you would like to start planning your next getaway, don’t hesitate to get in touch.
