The Zurich Chamber Orchestra starts the new season on October 12th under the motto “Metamorphosis”. At the center of the opening concert is Tchaikovsky’s “Souvenir de Florence” in a rarely performed version for string orchestra.

In the 2021/22 season, the Zurich Chamber Orchestra is dedicated to the theme of change and metamorphosis. Editing will play a central role in this. This can already be seen at the start of the season on October 12th. In the newly renovated Tonhalle am See music director and master violinist Daniel Hope presents Tchaikovsky’s “Souvenir de Florence” in a rarely performed version for string orchestra. Piotr Tchaikovsky’s “Florentine Memories” was written in 1890 during one of the composer’s most productive years. He sketched his only string sextet during an inspiring Italian summer in Florence, where his opera “Pique Dame” was also composed. After returning to his Russian country estate, he put the work on paper in just 17 days. A passionate, dramatic homage to the Tuscan metropolis.

The program is rounded off with works of baroque masters. Willi Zimmermann, Daria Zappa Matesic, Tanja Sonc, Inès Morin and Philipp Wollheim are co-soloists of Daniel Hope.
