Magical moments with Mozart at the Einsiedeln Closter

Yesterday the closter of Einsiedeln celebrated the second Sunday of Advent with a beautiful concert. Many music lovers and Christmas market visitors gathered in the 12th century church for one hour.

The honored composer was Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart (1756-1791).

Lukas Meister, director of the Einsiedeln chapel choir and head of the Zurich Academy Orchestra, led majestically the abbey choir and chamber choir of Einsiedeln and the Orchestra and Wood & Metal Connection association.

The concert began sharp at 6.30 pm just as it did one week before on the first Sunday of Advent. It started with the Sparrow Mass (Spatzenmesse), a mass in C major K. 220/196b from 1775. Then the Swiss soprano, Liv Lange Rohrer (35) did a solo and sung the Exsultate, jubilate. This motet was composed in 1773 when Mozart was just 17 years old. The soprano continued singing in the choir during the last and longer part of the concert. All together they sung the Sancta Maria, mater Dei in FA major, KV. 273. Mozart composed it in 1777 before leaving Salzburg for Augsburg.

Meister showed he is not only an excellent choir director but also a great entertainer. Rohrer, beautifully dressed in a black gala dress, stood gracefully and at ease in front of a moved audience. The concert was a great success.
