Vivamost!

Art

Anca Sabau, Thomas Thüring, Daniel Eisenhut at Kunst 19

Vivamost was very present at Kunst 19 this year, visiting the art contemporary fair during four days. We shared numerous articles and photo collages.

I was very happy to meet two artists, Anca Sabau (studio 73) and Daniel Eisenhut.

Sabau comes from Romania where she teaches art classes. In 2011 she made a Series about Human Rights. She exhibited 8 powerful 100×70 cm canvases where she mixed tee-shirts, oil and prints together. She was inspired by pop art artist Miguel Basquiat.

Swiss/Israeli artist Daniel Eisenhut talked to me about his project “Lipstick Leaders.” During the years 2016-2018 he drew portraits with charcoal of amazing Swiss women. Each portrait took about half an hour. They all have something in common: the ladies are not smiling and they wear some red lipstick. I met him the day of his networking event. Eisenhut had invited about 70 women, who took part in his project.

I had an interesting conversation with Alexander Sarasin from Sarasin Art at Kunst 19 Zurich. The gallerist brought artworks from artists working in Basel and its surroundings.

One of them is Thomas Thüring, known for its figurative, abstract artworks. His work doesn`t let indifferent and sometimes is provocative. In Zurich he had a painting with a tablecloth on canvas. Then “600”, 3 acryl glass with inside birch wood pieces. Each cm between each glass counts, explains the gallerist. The most provocative piece is “Forget it you´ll never make it”. The visitors see 6 swim block starts, each in a different color, with in front 6 single mirrors. It makes you think even more you will and can do it. While you think you can see your reflection in the mirror.

Another artist is Rosa Lachenmeier, known for her collages, photo and architectural paintings. At Kunst 19 we could see her 2017 Series about New York Yellow cabs, where she made acryl canvases with spray on photos. This year she finished a Series about subway scenes with spray on metal.

Then there was the artist Thomas Ruepp, who is also a goldsmith in Sissach. At the exhibition hall there were some of his beautiful wooden sculptures painted in oil.
