The 7th Iranian Film Festival in Zurich: May 26th-June 3rd

The 7th edition of the Iranian Film Festival will start in 9 days on May 26th.  As in 2020 due Covid-19 the organisers of the festival have decided to present the films to you at home.

This year the festival will present 12 features and 17 short films in competition. These films will be judged under the eyes of prestigious jury members for winning the Golden Cyrus Cylinder Trophy: writer-director Barbara Miller as president of the feature film jury with Annina Furrer writer-director, Gertrud Pinkus editor-writer-director, Véronique Gray journalist-editor in chief of Vivamost, and Joël Jent, writer-producer and Karin Heberlein writer-director-actress, who presides the jury for short films in competition with Homayra Sellier, Sorbonne graduate, humanist and founder of Innocence in Danger, Firouz Pillet journalist and film critics, and Moritz Schneider founder of CUT-UP a distribution of short films.

On May 26th the festival will open with the film Nasrin by American film producer and director Jeff Kaufman. His film is about a lawyer, a woman who defends the poor, the needy and those who cannot afford a lawyer. 

Iranian born physicist and documentary filmmaker Taghi Amirani will present his documentary film Coup 53. It tells the story of the 1953 Coup d’Etat by CIA/MI6 that changed the destiny of the Iranian nation.

In between the festival will present a Zurich´s story called Moving Heart, a film by the festival´s artistic director, Yadolah Dodge. It is a documentary about a man, his creation and his thoughts. 

The 7th edition of the festival will display a selection of exceptional films from Iranians and other national filmmakers from Austria, Canada, UK, Greece, USA and across all generations. The films show many aspects of life in Iran as well as universal issues.

To build a more solid cultural bridge between people, the Iranian Film Festival started a collaboration with the Institute for the Intellectual Development of Children & Young Adults known as Kanoon. Kanoon was founded in 1965 in Tehran to promote the creativity, intellectual and artistic abilities of these age groups. In this edition IFFZ  will show 10 animation films with no subtitles and invites children of all ages to enjoy these exceptional animation films.
