The world celebrates

Another year is ending with major world landmarks anniversaries:

 

1211: the Cathedral of Santiago de Compostella’s construction ends after 133 years.

1521: after eight years the Chenonceau castle on the Cher River in France opens.

1591: the Rialto Bridge in Venice is finished.

1841: the word Dinosauria is coined by Sir Richard Owen, British paleontologist and biologist.

1851: that year Carl Bally in Switzerland starts making shoes. Now Bally is world-known.

1876: Angèle Lancel launches her first leather bag. The French brand celebratesin 2011 its 135 years anniversary.

1891: the Zurich Opera House is celebrating this year its 120th anniversary. The first opera performed there was “Lohengrin”on October 1, 1891, a long opera in three acts by German composer Richard Wagner

1911: Frank Mars starts selling Mars Bars in Washington State, USA

1931: the well-known Empire state building in Manhattan, New York,  is the tallest building in the world until 1972. It is 1453 feet/443 meters high.

2001: the Twin Towers in Vienna are done after two years construction. One is 452 feet/138 meters and the other one 416 feet/127 meters.

2001: the Great library in Alexandria in Egypt opens to the public in October a decade ago.

2001: 10 years ago the Berlin Jewish Museum from Daniel Liebeskind is finally opened.
