The Zurich Chamber Orchestra celebrates 75 years and opens its anniversary season on October 27th with Music Director Daniel Hope and the Hungarian soprano Emőke Baráth. The program of the first official ZKO concert from 1945 is played.
The Zurich Chamber Orchestra and Music Director Daniel Hope will start their fifth season together in autumn. A season dedicated to the orchestra’s 75th anniversary and the 100th birthday of its founder Edmond de Stoutz. Having fun and making music on your own responsibility before disappearing into the orchestra pit in the provinces – the ZKO’s story begins with this instinctive struggle by de Stoutz and his fellow students. The 2020/21 season-opening pays homage to the first official concert from 1945.
Just like 75 years ago, the ZKO will open the concert evening on October 27 with the Concerto grosso in D major op. 6 No. 5 by Georg Friedrich Händel. As in 1945, Handel was followed by solo cantatas by Franz Tunder and Julius Johann Weiland, both of which are little known pearls of the Baroque. The second part of the program presents a youth work by Mendelssohn and the Concertino op. 42 by the Polish composer Mieczysław Weinberg.
Music Director Daniel Hope and concertmaster Willi Zimmermann manage according to the dynamic principle of “Play & Conduct”. The Hungarian soprano Emőke Baráth accompanies the evening as a soloist and interprets the solo cantatas by Franz Tunder and Julius Johann Weiland.
To ensure that you can enjoy a carefree concert, all safety precautions for the audience and orchestra are of course observed.
