The new season of the Zurich Chamber Orchestra is dedicated to the 75-year-old Anniversary and the 100th birthday of its founder Edmond de Stoutz. Oriented the program follows the originally baroque concert format “Concerto grosso”. At the same time order compositions are awarded, cross-classic projects are realized and
discovered new venues in Zurich. The contract with Music Director Daniel Hope was extended by a further three years until summer 2024.
Zurich, July 2, 2020 – Music Director Daniel Hope has headed Zurich since the 2016/17 season Chamber orchestra based on the dynamic principle of “Play & Conduct”. Now he has his contract over extended for another three years until summer 2024. In autumn he starts his fifth season with the Orchestra. And it will be a very special one: The ZKO celebrates 75 years and the 100th birthday of its Founder Edmond de Stoutz.
Concerto grosso in the center.
In memory of the ZKO founder, who loved this originally baroque form of concert, the programmatic focus in the coming season will be on the “Concerto grosso”. It will individual playing of individual orchestral musicians of a larger instrumentation juxtaposed. In addition, the ZKO brings outstanding soloists such as Alexandre Tharaud, Truls Mørk,Emőke Baráth, Ton Koopman, Maurice Steger and Rachel Harnisch as well as younger Swiss soloists such as Sebastian Bohren and Simon Bürki in the Limmatstadt.
Swiss commissioned compositions and new venues
In the anniversary season, the ZKO also ventures into experimental concert formats. So in the frame the special exhibition “Wild in the Heart” of the Kunsthaus Zürich. And the classic jazz crossover The “RAVELation” project brings the ZKO to the Volkshaus in Zurich for the first time. This awards for the concert format
ZKO three commissions to the Swiss Luzia von Wyl, Daniel Schnyder and Christoph Baumann. The soloists are Dieter Ilg Trio and star trumpeter Till Brönner. Another commissioned work by the Swiss artist Cécile Marti will be premiered as part of the ZKO birthday concert in December 2020 in the ZKO house. The ZKO’s own house and the Maag Tonhalle remain the orchestras’ central venues. As well the churches of St. Peter and Fraumünster will continue to be used, the Neumünster in Riesbach city district. Two large children’s concerts are held in the hall of the Pfauen theatre.
Performances abroad
The ZKO is and remains an orchestra with a distinctive travel DNA. Planned tour Stations include Germany, Austria and Asia as well as appearances at the Odessa Classics Festival in the Ukraine.
