The five-elemental meditation method was brought from the Himalayas to the world by Master Shiva Guruji after an intense training with 21 Himalayan Masters: Shiva Dhyan Yoga. SHIVA includes all five elements of the existence outside and inside of us: SHIVA means Sky (designating the Element Space), Horizon (Element Earth), Ignition (Element Fire), Vastness (Element Water) & Air. Dhyan means focus and yoga union with the inner self and harmonious union of people.

In this column we are looking at the energizing, holistic and energy enhancing Shiva Dhyan Yoga Meditation called “Awakening OM Meditation”. With the OM sound, which is also written as AUM, Master Shiva Guruji refers to the sound of origin, the basic vibration underlying existence. AUM stands for Astitva, existence, U for Usasa, our breath and M for Masti, joy, happiness and bliss. Hearing and singing the AUM sound aligns us with ourselves, establishes mind peace and harmonizes our thoughts and emotions. A mind clarity emerges, allowing us to take decisions with awakened awareness and feel more energized.

Shiva Dhyan Yoga Energizing AUM Meditation
In this technique we use the hand gesture, called “mudra” in Sanskrit, of the thumb touching the little finger. This specific mudra is called “Buddhi Mudra”, the mudra of intellect and intelligence, which is represented by planet Mercury, symbolizing the little finger. The thumb represents the inner self, our true, inner being. By connecting the tips of the thumb and little finger of the left and the tips of the thumb and little finger of the right and respectively, we harmonize our inner being and our intellect and mind. The other fingers are kept straight.
The left tip formed by the left thumb and little finger touches the navel, which has a centering and grounding impact. It is the point where we were connected with our mother at the moment of our birth. In this meditation we reconnect with Mother Earth in a larger sense.
This Shiva Dhyan Yoga meditation reconnect us with our soul, with the innermost part of our being.
It is a highway to self-realization, opening up all the higher chakras, the energy centers located at our spine, especially the heart, throat, third eye and crown chakra. At the same time the lower energy centers are balanced.
How to get started:
Touch the tips of the thumbs with the little fingers of the left and the right hand respectively. Put the tips of the joined thumb and little finger of the left hand into the navel and the ones of the right hand on the heart center. The other fingers are stretched.
Breathe in through the nostrils. Hold the breath and lift your hands and arms in a dancing movement upwards until both of the tips touch each other above the head while stretching the arms upwards.
Join the palms of the hand. When exhaling chant AUM, imagining, that the sound comes out of the heart center.
Hold the breath while repositioning the tips of the thumb and little finger in the navel and at the heart center.
Repeat at least five times.
