Who should get their glow on, even when the sun doesn’t shine!
There’s nothing like wearing a bright colour to bring on the good vibes- whether the weather has been playing ball or not! However, what the right level of bright for you is, is very much relative. Knowing which colours will suit you removes the risk of the colour wearing you and helps you to make confident choices. If you would like to know if you should be wearing colours that zing, this article is for you.
To help you navigate through the current colour trends, I have written a series with four of the biggest directions and put them into easy-to-identify families. For each of these, you will see a description of who would best suit these colours, and who should avoid them. These are not the over-simplified and often misleading tips you usually get in fashion or beauty editorials such as “all blondes should wear X and all brunettes should wear Y”. You are unique – take a good look in the mirror, noting your hair and eye colour, and use this comparison to measure of whether a colour works for you or not.
So bright, they seem to give off their own glow, the luminescent hues are uplifting, a celebration in and of themselves. They can make any time of day “happy hour”, conjuring up memories of sipping colourful cocktails at an exotic beach club.
Calling all those striking beauties with noticeable eyes these colours are for you! You have a high contrast look – HD clarity – with striking eyes and dark brunette, red, lightest blonde or silver hair. Your jewel like eye colour is a piercing-blue, jewel-green, or tiger’s-eye-brown. You could also have dark brown eyes with a particularly contrasting bright white to them, especially if you are of colour. Bright colours make you sparkle, the brighter the better. You were made to turn heads, so own it, in pure unadulterated colour!
Those with silver or white-blonde hair and bright eyes, should absolutely stick to my cooler left-hand cocktail of colours from curaçoa through to icy limoncello, and, while vivid red heads and strawberry blondes will also look great in the blue Curacoa, for the rest, the right-hand mix from blood orange to Pineapple will rock on you. Striking Brunettes and blondes that don’t have anything obviously golden about them will be safest if they keep to the left (colour column, that is), but feel free to try out the warmer colours to see if they work on you.
Those with an overall low contrast appearance with gentle, smokey eyes, or those with soft, bronde (light brown or dark blonde) hair should not give these colours a second look! Counterintuitively, wearing these colours will draw the attention away from you, making you look background and mousey in comparison to your outfit. Don’t worry, you can wear colour too! There are equally fashionable options for you that are guaranteed not to steal your shine. See my article on dusty pastels.
